Although most Israelis are Jews, “Jewish” denotes religion and peoplehood, not nationality, whereas “Israeli” denotes nationality/citizenship. There are Jews who are not Israeli and Israelis who are not Jews.
On 27 January 1945, Auschwitz was liberated. On that date we remember the more than 5 million Jews murdered by the Nazis in the Holocaust.
