Θα χρησιμοποιήσουμε το elder και το eldest όταν συγκρίνουμε ανθρώπους και κατά προτίμηση όταν συγκρίνουμε μέλη μιας οικογένειας. Δεν θα τα χρησιμοποιήσουμε ποτέ όταν συγκρίνουμε πράγματα.

Θα χρησιμοποιήσουμε το older και το oldest όταν συγκρίνουμε ανθρώπους ή πράγματα και κατά προτίμηση όχι για μέλη μιας οικογένειας.

• I think Jenny is the eldest sister among the three.

• I am 6 years older than you are.

Ειδικά το elder χρησιμοποιείται και σαν ουσιαστικό.
