Η λέξη προέρχεται από το they + selves (πληθυντικός του self ). Στον Ενικό είναι: himself, herself, itself.

Από μόνη της σημαίνει αυτοί οι ίδιοι / οι εαυτοί τους.

Πάντως, είναι ένα εμφατικό στοιχείο και πολύ συχνά δεν θα μεταφράσουμε καθόλου στα Ελληνικά.

Αντωνυμία (Pronoun) → reflexive (3rd person plural).

Χρήσεις:

1. Reflexive (subject = object):
   • They hurt themselves.
   • The children taught themselves to read.
2. Emphatic (for emphasis):
   • They themselves admitted the mistake.
   • The workers themselves demanded better conditions.
